Question for OTB players: is it legal/ethical to take notes for yourself during a tournament game?

I’ve played in one OTB tournament and it didn’t go great. When I play online, I usually analyze my games immediately after so my thought process is fresh in my mind and I remember what I was thinking about on most key moves.

But for an OTB tournament, I obviously can’t pull it up to analyze right away so I’m wondering what the etiquette is on taking notes in addition to recording the moves that are actually made. I’m talking about a blank sheet of paper just to write down lines I considered but didn’t use, that sort of thing.
